614 – Underground was created during my April art prompt challenge where I created a new artwork each day in response to a single word. The prompt for this work was ‘inside’ and the obvious choice was to illustration a scene inside a home or buildings but when I was a kid I would often imagine climbing into a deep burrow in the ground where it is quiet and cool. I knew it was dangerous to be below the earth so instead I would lie within tall grass and enjoy the embrace of the cool earth on my back.
